Type of Orthotics

Orthotics are designed with different purposes and functions. Some conditions require maximum immobility and rigidity, while some require minimal control and flexibility.  The type of materials and joints used are all important on the goals of the orthotic.
Post Operative/Rehabilitative- Provide support and protect. The orthosis can provide protect from damage or harmful placement or movement. An orthosis can include the use of adjustable controlled range of motion joints, A increase in the amount of motion of time can be achieved with the controlled range of motion joint.

Fracture-  A fracture orthosis provides support for the fracture to heal in the proper site. The orthosis is usually total contact with a bivalve design. The bivalve design includes a front and rear soft interfaced shell design strapped together.

Functional- Provide support to a injured or unstable joint. The orthosis helps maintain mobility and quality of life.

Prophylactic- Used as a preventive measure. After a certain type of injuries. A orthosis is used during certain activities, like agility, long distance, or high impact activities.
